Oglethorpe Seminar

Microfinance education is a primary goal of Gray Matters Capital Foundation. Much has been accomplished in the graduate and post-graduate arena, and there are strong training and development opportunities for those already active in the sector. A significant education need is recognized in the area of the undergraduate population, however.

GMC and Oglethorpe University have collaborated to create a microfinance seminar for upper level undergraduates. An offering of Oglethorpe's Economics department, this class takes students beyond the news-generated hype of microfinance. They are exposed to academics and microfinance-based economic theory as well as practitioners, investors and pioneers in the field.

An early interest in microfinance is sought, to encourage students to prepare for the unique needs of the industry: language skills, international travel and an interest in projects with demonstrable social impact. GMC is pleased to participate in the creation of this class, which Oglethorpe intends to offer as a regular enhancement to their rich civic engagement curriculum.
