After graduating from public high school and then Dartmouth College, Bob began his career in sales in the family business — becoming president at 27 and leading a turnaround later valued at $1 billion.
In 1994 he started his own company, where innovations in location and design made Robert Pattillo Properties the 8th-largest industrial developer in the United States.
In 2001 he founded the Gray Ghost Microfinance Fund, a $69 million fund backing regional equity funds that provided start-up and expansion capital to microfinance institutions around the world.
Then, in 2003 — guided by a conversation with his eleven-year-old daughter — Bob sold his entire real estate business to focus solely on impact investing. In 2006, Gray Matters Capital was born.
